John didn’t really stand a chance—music was always going to be the path. His mother is a musician, and his father was a devoted music lover, so from an early age he was immersed in the sound of it all. Growing up in Bakersfield, California, he became an active part of the local music community, playing multiple instruments across a wide range of settings.
Piano eventually became his primary focus, leading him to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he earned degrees in Music Education and Composition.
After graduating in 2012, John returned to California and founded Calanchini Music Studio, originally centered on private music instruction. Over time, increasing demand for performance, recording, touring, and composition expanded the scope of his work. Following a brief role as a collaborative pianist at his local college, he evolved the studio into what is now Calanchini Music—a multifaceted music enterprise.
Today, John maintains an active teaching schedule both privately and as a faculty member at Bakersfield College. He performs regularly as well, balancing his classical roots as principal pianist with the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra with national touring alongside East LA-based group Las Cafeteras. In the margins of his schedule, he continues to write and arrange music, with new works soon to be available through this site.
